Red carpet at the world premiere of ”30 Days with My Brother”.

This past week, the movie ”30 Days with My Brother” had its world premiere at The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, followed by a Q&A. The movie is written by Omar Mora, who also plays one of the leads. A beautiful movie about brotherhood – a subject I don’t think I’ve ever seen on the screen before – with a lot of stunning views over Los Angeles.

I went to the event with my friend Kim, who is a producer, and the Spanish actor Jesus, who is about to move to LA. After the screening we mingled with new and old friends. It was a great evening; we stayed until they threw us out 😉

My friend Kim asked me if I wanted to go with her to the Grand Opening of Allure Banquet, partly sponsored by Latin Hollywood Films. Of course I said yes. We were treated with food and drinks and entertainment by the singer Karen Boksian and Angelo Pagan’s salsa band. The event did not only celebrate the opening of the Banquet facility; there was also a charity auction to benefit The Joy Foundation.

The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood.

The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood is one of Los Angeles’ most popular music venues; they have several performances each night. I and Maria went there to listen to Maria’s friend Erick and his band. The performed in the newer part of the venue, ”2nd Stage”, which is smaller and more intimate than the main stage. I was pretty tired when I got there due to a week of early mornings and late nights, but when they started playing I forgot all about that and the concert, which lasted an hour, ended way to fast…

Red carpet at the Swedish Oscars Party.

This past Sunday the Academy Awards was held in Hollywood and I watched the gala at the official Swedish Oscars Party, arranged by SACC-LA (Swedish-American Chambers of Commerce Los Angeles) and the Embassy of Sweden. The party was held at The District by Hannah An in Beverly Hills and the highlight of the evening was of course the Swedish nominees Eva von Bahr and Love Larson for Make Up and Hair and Alicia Vikander’s Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

Oscars 2016

Hollywood is getting ready for the Oscars.

Hollywood is getting ready for the Oscars.

We all dream in gold.”

_________________________________________________________________________________

Today it’s finally the Academy Awards – the event of the year here in Hollywood. The preparations have been going on all week and yesterday I and Maria was there to see how they were doing with red carpets, Oscar statues and rehearsals. The theme of the years seems to be triangles and this year’s slogan is: ”We all dream in gold.”

This year I’ll be watching the gala at SACC-LA:s Oscars Party and will of course cross my fingers for the nominees from the Nordic countries 🙂

_________________________________________________________________________________

On Saturday evening, the first weekend of Santa Barbara International Film Festival, I attended the Virtuosos Award at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara. The award goes to actors (this year there were seven of them) who have distinguished themselves through performances in films the past year. Before the actual award ceremony all the recipients was interviewed on stage.  Jacob Tremblay of ”Room” won everybody’s hearts with his charming and wise responses 🙂 At the VIP party, after the award ceremony, we celebrated the winners toasting in 130 years old cognac.

The first weekend of February I attended Santa Barbara International Film Festival. It’s an incredible festival. Except for movies from all over the world (they even have a Nordic section), they have a lot of award ceremonies, panels and events. My first day there I was at the US premiere of Danish director Bille August’s movie ”Silent Heart”, followed by a Q&A with him, the screenwriter and the producer. The movie was amazing! I don’t think I’ve ever cried that much watching a movie.

Next up was the Writers Panel at the beautiful Lobero Theatre. They had managed to get almost all of the Academy Award nominated screenwriters to be there – impressive! And of course very interesting to hear about their writing process and their work with the Academy Award nominated screenplays.

Me and Birgitta at the Scandinavian Film Festival LA 2016

_________________________________________________________________________________

Last weekend I attended the Scandinavian Film Festival Los Angeles to see the Danish movie ”A Second Chance” by Susanne Bier. The movie was very touching and dealt with what’s right and wrong and how you act according to it.

The Scandinavian Film Festival LA is a film festival I highly recommend to everybody. It is held two weekends in January every year and shows movies from the Nordic and Baltic countries, and always the countries’ Oscar nominated movies. Last year I was there with ”Miss Julie”, that got the honor to represent Sweden along with ”Force Majeure” and ”A Pigeon Sat on a Branch…”.

World premiere of ”Star Wars – The Force Awakens”.

Tonight is the world premiere of ”Star Wars – The Force Awakens” at Dolby Theatre, and it feels like it’s the Academy Awards that has a false start. Hollywood Blvd. has been closed since Thursday for preparations of the event and everybody has talked about it for weeks. It looks like it’s going to be the event of the year, but they are a bit unfortunate regarding the weather though… It’s been extremely windy today, almost like a storm, and it’s only like 52F outside. For their sake I hope it’s warm in the theater and inside the after party tents afterwards.

Red carpet at the Eliason Merit Award.

I have been sick long enough now, so this past Saturday it was really about time for me to leave the apartment and socialize again. And lucky me: SACC-LA (Swedish American Chamber of Commerce Los Angeles) had their yearly big event that evening: Eliason Merit Award. It has been awarded since 1988 and goes to an individual that during the year has strengthen the relations between Sweden and the U.S. in the areas of commerce, culture, science or the arts. This year’s award winner was the Swedish artist Tove Lo and she received the prize from last year’s winner, actor Joel Kinnaman. The event was held at the legendary Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood and at the after party the Swedish artists Elliphant and Erik Hassle were performing. A great night at a beautiful venue!
