I helgen var jag på förhandsvisning av ”Concussion”, som har premiär på juldagen. Filmen baserar sig på en sann historia och handlar om Dr Bennet Omalu, en neuropatolog som upptäckte CET, en hjärnskada som många som spelar amerikansk fotboll får. En intressant och viktig film. Efter visningen var det Q&A med två av skådespelarna: Will Smith och Albert Brooks. Det blev många skratt, men jag inspirerades också av vad de berättade om sina erfarenheter som skådespelare i den här filmen och andra. Stort tack!

Last week I went to a pre-screening of ”Concussion”, that will have theatrical release on December 25th. The movie is based on a true story about Dr. Bennet Omalu, a forensic neuropathologist who made the first discovery of CET, a football-related brain trauma, in a pro player. A very interesting and important movie. After the screening there was a Q&A with two of the actors: Will Smith and Albert Brooks. We all got to laugh a lot during the Q&A, but I also got inspired by things they told about their acting careers. Such a treat! I’m honored!

Jag förstår verkligen att Los Angeles är filmens huvudstad. Förutom alla stora studios och alla talangfulla filmarbetare som finns i själva LA, finns det så vitt skilda utomhusmiljöer en eller ett par timmars bilresa därifrån. I söndag var jag i öknen, ungefär 1½ timmes bilfärd bort. I Palmdale. Eller ska jag säga: Vilda Västern. För det är faktiskt här som många västernfilmer har spelats in. Vilket landskap! Och vilket väder… Just i söndags blåste det ganska mycket, så det var kallt och tumbleweeden, sanden och löv flög hej vilt. Sen började det regna… Tur att vi hade bilar att ta skydd i. Men tack och lov sprack det upp så att vi kunde börja filma efter ett par timmars väntan. Filmen utspelar sig i Afrika och är egentligen helt färdigfilmad, men några scener behövdes tas om och det var det vi skulle göra nu; en s.k. re-shoot. Eftersom skådespelarna som är med i filmen var uppbokade på andra jobb fick jag hoppa in som stand in för en av huvudkaraktärerna och spela henne. Allting flöt på bra och precis när vi hoppade in i bilarna för att åka tillbaka till LA började regnet att ösa ner igen…

I really do understand why Los Angeles is the capital of the movies. Except for all the big studios located here and the talent available in the city of LA, there are so many different locations one or two hours away. This past Sunday I was in the desert, about 1.5 hours by car from LA. In Palmdale. Or I should say: The Wild West. Because a lot of westerns have been filmed here. What a landscape! And what a weather… This particular Sunday it was very windy, so it was cold and the tumble weed, the sand and leaves were all over the place. And then it started to rain… Lucky us that we had cars to hide inside of. But after a couple of hours the rain had passed us and we could start shooting. The movie takes place in Africa and is already filmed, but some scenes had to be re-shot. And that was today’s mission. And since the actors were busy with something else I got to stand in for one of the leads. Everything went smoothly, but just as we jumped in the cars to go back to LA the rain started to pour again…

IKEA Burbank
Häromdagen fick jag tid över till att åka till IKEA i Burbank för att handla. Förutom alla möbler, heminredning och husgeråd har de även svenska matvaror, så saknar man Sverige när man är här i LA kan man alltid åka dit. Och förutom IKEA finns även Olson’s Scandinavian Deli, godisaffären Sockerbit och några svenska restauranger. Dessutom ordnar organisationer som SWEA, Svenska Kyrkan och SACC-LA julmarknad med luciatåg, midsommarfest och påskfirande. Min inköpslista den här dagen var inte så lång (kaffe, herrgårdsost, knäckebröd, batterier, handdukar och kanske en kudde), men som vanligt kommer man ut med mer än man tänkt sig… De hade också satt upp sitt ”holiday tent” fullt med fina julsaker, men där köpte jag inget (även fast jag ville) eftersom jag kommer att fira jul i Sverige i år. Jag gick bara in för att titta och få lite julstämning. Sen åkte jag hem och gjorde mig en välförtjänt svensk frukost med knäckebröd och herrgårdsost. Och tände lite värmeljus i sann IKEA-anda.

The other day I got some spare time, so I had time to go to IKEA Burbank to do some shopping. Except for all the furniture, home interior and houseware, they also have Swedish food. So if you, as a Swede, miss Sweden when you’re in LA you can always go to IKEA. And if IKEA’s not enough there is also Olson’s Scandinavian Deli, the candy store Sockerbit and a couple of Swedish restaurants. Furthermore, organizations like SWEA, The Swedish Church and SACC-LA arrange events at Swedish traditional holidays such as a Christmas Fair and Midsummer celebration. My shopping list this day was not very long (coffee, herrgård’s cheese, hard bread, batteries, towels and perhaps a pillow), but as usual you end up getting more things than you planned for… They had also put up their ”holiday tent”, filled with pretty Christmas decorations. But I didn’t buy anything (even though I wanted to) since I’m going to Sweden for Christmas, just went in there to have a look and get into the Christmas spirit. Then I went home and made me a well deserved Swedish breakfast with hard bread and herrgård’s cheese.

Den senaste veckan har AFM (American Film Market) pågått i Los Angeles med seminarium, diskussioner, filmvisningar, möten och fester. I söndags var jag med min vän Kim, som är producent och manusförfattare, på Legacy Entertainments stora AFM Party. Det hölls på V Lounge i Santa Monica och flera tusen hade anmält att de ville komma. Så kön var lång, men vi utnyttjade tiden väl och minglade och networkade hela vägen in i lokalen och slutade inte förrän stängningsdags. En väldigt rolig och givande kväll!

The past week the AFM (American Film Market) has been going on in Los Angeles with seminars, round tables, screenings, meetings and parties. On Sunday I went with my screenwriting and producing friend Kim to Legacy Entertainment’s AFM Party at V Lounge in Santa Monica. Thousands of people had RSVP:d, so the line to get in was long. But we used the time well and mingled and networked all the way in to the venue and didn’t stop until they closed the place. A very fun and productive evening!

Så, då är jag tillbaka i LA igen efter en dryg vecka i Sverige fylld med en massa roliga jobb och långa promenader i vår vackra huvudstad. Saknar redan de vackra höstfärgerna och den fräscha höstluften. Här i LA är det runt 20-25 grader, vilket inte är helt fel det heller. Nu väntar spännande dagar med auditions och möten. Håll tummarna 🙂

So, I’m back in LA again after about a week in Sweden, filled with a lot of fun jobs and long walks in our beautiful capital. I already miss the beautiful autumn colors and the fresh autumn air. Here in LA it’s about 20-25 degrees Celsius (about 75 F), which isn’t too bad either. Now I have some exciting days ahead of me with auditions and meetings. Fingers crossed 🙂

En av de roliga sakerna med att jobba som skådespelare är att man aldrig vet vad nästa uppdrag blir. Och det kan bli vad som helst. Som den här veckan när jag jobbade med en orm ena dagen i Sundbyberg utanför Stockholm, nästa dag hade jag man och två barn i Hässleholm i Skåne. Därefter firade jag nyår i en reklamfilm och i fredags var jag VD under en övning på en fotografutbildning. Kul!

One of the things I like about working as an actress is that you never know what your next job will be. And it can be anything. Like this week. One day I worked with a snake in Sundbyberg outside Stockholm, the next day I was married, had two kids and lived in Hässleholm in the southern part of Sweden. Then I celebrated New Years in a commercial and on Friday I portrayed a CEO at a photography workshop. Fun!

I lördags firade Volvo 60 år i Nordamerika med en stor fest på Paramount Pictures Studio i Hollywood. Området var fullt med Volvos från alla tidsepoker – den äldsta från 1927 – och de hade ordnat en Drive In-bio som visade klipp från filmer tv-serier där Volvo-bilar hade en ”roll”. Utöver detta fanns show rooms med bilder över Volvos historia och bjöds det på mat och dryck och underhållning. Kvällens hedersgäst var Jay Leno som kom inkörande i sin blå Volvo och sedan körde en bejublad stand up-show.

This past Saturday Volvo celebrated 60 years in North America with a big party at Paramount Pictures Studio in Hollywood. The New York Street area was filled with Volvo cars from year 1927 to the newest Volvo available on the market today. There was also a Drive In movie theatre where they showed movies and tv series that featured a Volvo and show rooms with photos telling the history of Volvo in North America. And of course a lot to eat and drink and entertainment. The guest of honor of the night was Jay Leno, who arrived in his blue Volvo, and then treated us with an outstanding stand up show.

I söndags var det dags för inspelningen av kortfilmen ”Souvenirs”, där jag spelar en turist i LA tillsammans med min vän och fantastiska skådespelaren Jani.
Kl 06.00 blev jag upphämtad och sen bar det av till LAX, Los Angeles International Airport, för första scenen. Och kan ni tro – det började regna! Tidigare i veckan har meteorologerna sagt att det skulle komma regn på söndagen, men sen har de ändrat sig och spått inget regn den närmsta tiden. Men det kom. Det tog tre scener innan det blev uppehåll och sen tittade solen fram så att vi tack och lov fick den solnedgång i Santa Monica som var inskriven i manuset. Allt som allt en rolig dag med mycket sightseeing och souvenirer. Och att det regnade gjorde bara att historien blev ännu bättre! 🙂

This past Sunday was the day of the filming of the short film ”Souvenirs”, in which I play a tourist in LA together with my friend Jani (he’s an amazing actor!).
I got picked up at 6 am and then we went to LAX, Los Angeles International Airport, for the first scene. And you know what?! It started to rain!! In the beginning of last week the weather forecast said that it was going to rain Sunday, but then it changed and they predicted no rain in the near future. But there it was. It took three scenes before it had stopped, and then the sun came out so we got the sunset in Santa Monica, written in the screenplay. Altogether a very fun day with a lot of sightseeing and souvenirs. And the rain actually made the story even better! 🙂

I torsdags var jag på vernissage på Quixiote Studios i West Hollywood. ”Portraits” är en utställning med några av Timothy Whites fotografier av några av vår tids ikoner som Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts, Dustin Hoffman och Brad Pitt. Väldigt fascinerande. Jag mötte upp min vän Meredith där. Alltid lika roligt att hänga med henne! Mellan minglandet gick vi loss och fotade oss med våra favoritporträtt.

This past Thursday I attended the opening reception of ”Portraits” by Timothy White at Quixiote Studios in West Hollywood. The exhibit is a retrospective look at some of Timothy’s most iconic subjects like Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts, Dustin Hoffman and Brad Pitt. Very intriguing. I met up with my friend Meredith. I always have such a fun time with her! We enjoyed ourselves mingling and taking photos with and of our favorite portraits.
